Air Purifier Helps Asthma Suffer Breathe Easier

Problem: The son of a Central Indian couple had been diagnosed with asthma after he complained about having trouble breathing. Even with proper medical treatment, there were times he still had breathing problems at home. They were astonished to find out that air inside a home can be 10 time more polluted than outside air.

Solution: When they contacted J.R. Wortman for assistance, we recommended a combination of a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filter, as well as an ultraviolet (UV) light air purifier system. The two systems would be incorporated into the home's existing ventilation system.

While the HEPA filter works very well against airborne particulates, such as dust, dirt, pollen and other particles, they are not effective against contaminants such as mold, bacteria, viruses, chemicals and odors.

Because of the health issue, we recommended a UV Air Purifier from Sanuvox, a leader in air purifier technology. Their systems are designed to destroy both biological and chemical contaminants, including odors; and are rated as at least 99.7% effective against airborne bacteria, and 99% effective on viral agents, by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Homeland Security. Results: Within days of installing new air filter and purifier, the child's health improved noticeably. He showed no signs of labored breathing at home, even at times of high activity. The family reports that everybody feels better since having the system, an added bonus.

Maintaining Temperature in a Large Storage Facility

Problem: A 20,000 sq. ft., Central Indiana Medical Supply Distribution Center needed a new ventilation system that was more efficient and less costly to operate. At certain times of the year it was difficult to maintain an environment with the low temperature variants critical for many medical supplies. In addition, skyrocketing utility costs were negatively affecting their bottom line.

Solution: When contacted for an evaluation and estimate, J.R. Wortman's HVAC contractors recommended replacing their existing multi-unit HVAC system with a single, energy-efficient, 100-ton cooling unit and a large air rotation unit to ventilate the entire warehouse from one location.

This type of air make-up system is designed for large, open warehouse-type areas where there is one footprint, in one location, requiring a single temperature zone. and you’re going to do a 20,000 square foot building from one source. The air rotation unit uses a large fan to slowly rotate the air in the building to both heat and cool it uniformly, all year long.

Results: We were able to efficiently install their new air handling system with little or no interruption in business operations. The new system has not only effectively controlled the temperature variation problem, but by utilizing the less-costly air rotation unit, they have been able to reduce heating and cooling costs dramatically, as well.
